How to become a Facial Specialist

It’s everywhere right now. Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, just about everywhere you look people are talking about skincare, makeup application and beauty products. What you rarely hear is that most states require you to get a license before you can legally make any money doing it.

That’s right. The girls at the spa doing facials, applying makeup, and ripping all the hair from your body are all licensed professionals. Florida calls them Facial Specialist (the ones who like to wax I call trained killers, but that’s just the opinion of a man with a hairy back.

What does it take to become a facial specialist?

Well, to become an esthetician you need to find an Esthetics school licensed in your state to provide the skincare education you need. You can do that with a few internet searches but make sure they are properly licensed when you interview them. You’ll want to ask if graduating from their school will qualify you for licensure.

State requirements range from just over 200 hours to as many as 2000 hours. In most cases, the more hours a state requires the more services you’re able to do as a facial specialist. In Florida, the hours are low comparatively speaking, less than 300 hours, meaning the time and costs upfront are minimal.

At Alpha School of Esthetics, you will need to complete 350 hours of training. We make sure you get trained in all the services you’ll need to get a job in a reputable spa. You’ll learn skincare products, European facials and facials of all kinds, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, makeup application, and even waxing (I cringe just typing it). You’ll get plenty of hands-on practice at Alpha. We want you to be sure of yourself when you walk out the door as a Licensed Facial Specialist.
